Farmers to access inputs by 1st September for 2019/2020 season

Government has assured farmers that they will start accessing farming inputs on time on 1st September, 2019/2020 to enable them plant early. Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo disclosed yesterday during the National harvest day held at Mababe Farms in Mumbwa district in Central Province.

“We are on course for the 2019/2020 Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) and we have commenced accepting the K400 farmer input contribution,’’says Mr Katambo. He also emphasized that Government was committed to ensuring that Agro Dealers are paid their outstanding dues. “The Ministry has continued to engage the Ministry of Finance in order to clear the debt we owe our Agro dealers across the country and mechanisms are also being put in place to ensure that the Agro dealers are paid on time during the 2019/2020 farming season,” says Katambo.

Meanwhile, Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) president Jervis Zimba has commended government for engaging farmers in growing irrigated maize to increase maize stocks in the country
